Day 6: Night out on the Town

Our morning started off with some down time on the lawn of Niños del Sol, while the kids were still getting ready for the day. We were able to play with some adorable baby chicks that were a new addition to the Niños family.

The morning and early afternoon was then spent getting the walls ready for paint. We had to make sure that the surface was sanded and free of holes before the fresh paint could be added. By the end of the afternoon, we were fully covered in sand dust, but it was worth it to see the final product! We were so humbled to be able to work on this project for them.

We ended the day with another game of soccer with the boys and some arts and crafts with the girls. The entire week was spent working on our Spanish and trying to get the kids to use their English. At one point, us girls were working on our soccer strategy aloud in English, thinking they didn't understand. However, one of the younger boys then said to us, "I speak good English." We just about died laughing!

Wanting to make the most of the time that we had left with the kids, we decided to end the evening with a walk to the town for some ice cream. We sang some songs and did some skipping all the way to town with the kids. Being able to just take a stroll and breathe in the fresh Peruvian air was something that we will all remember and cherish. The ice cream shop was full of unique flavors such as coca tea, queso, and other tropical fruits.

The night was spent enjoying a meal at Milhouse and getting ready to enjoy a night out on the town with our guide, Juan, and his girlfriend. We had a great time dancing and listening to some great music!
