Day 1: Acclimating to the Altitude

After our long overnight flight to Cusco, we were all happy to arrive in Cusco, Peru--anxious to get some rest and explore this beautiful city. We were met at the airport by our guide, Sabrina: an Argentinean native who welcomed us all with a hug and kiss on the cheek.

Once we arrived at the hostel, we were amazed by its beautiful facilities, antique charm, and incredible rooftop views.  However with the dramatic change in altitude (we were now 11,000 feet above sea level), we spent most of the afternoon relaxing and enjoying some coca tea to aide in the big adjustment.

For dinner, we all enjoyed our first traditional Peruvian meal: vegetable soup, "aji de gallina", and a fruit salad. We couldn't be more excited for our walking tour on Sunday, but we sure were in for a surprise! Stay tuned for more updates on our 2015 WINS Service Abroad trip to Cusco, Peru
