Day 2: Exploring Ancient Cusco

Our second day in Cusco led us on an unexpectedly long but exciting journey!

We took a bus ride up to the highest point of the city for a walk down to the town--or so we thought. Our adventure included exploring various archeological sites, including ancient Incan ruins and the beautiful San Cristobal Church. What we thought would be a casual stroll through the city ended up being a full five-hour hike through mountains, valleys, and staircases. We even got to witness a traditional parade near the church celebrating St. Christopher.

Due to our recent arrival and inexperience from the high altitude, we all were extremely winded multiple times, but the view was worth every gasp of breath!

We ended our exploration with a walk through the Plaza de Armas and even got the chance to hold an adorable baby lamb! After we snapped a few photos, we all took a trip to the San Pedro market where every Peruvian trinket and alpaca souvenir caught our eye.

The rest of the evening we spent relaxing, enjoying our traditional dinner, and preparing for our first day of service. We couldn't wait to explore Ninos del Sol and meet the children!
